Lighten up. I don't care what anybody says, those jokes were funny, but I think his explanation the following night was even funnier. Leno essentially made the same joke about Bristol Palin and John Edwards, and nobody got their panties in a wad then. You have to be seriously dense to think that Letterman was referring to the non-knocked-up daughter, which means no statutory-rape reference whatsoever was made. And yes, Bristol Palin was knocked-up at the age of seventeen. She has since paraded around for an abstinence cause, all the while living proof of having not practiced abstinence herself. Letterman also did not call Sarah Palin a slut; he said she'd bought makeup at Bloomingdale's to update her "slutty flight attendant look." There is a difference, but in my estimation, that description of her "look" doesn't fall too far from the mark.

Bristol Palin has become a national spokesperson for an organization that promotes abstinence to teens.  As if that wasn't enough of a mixed message, her tour around the country is sponsored by a clothing company that sells sexually titillating clothes aimed at tweens.  I think she is fair game.  And lest we forget, Letterman is a comedian.  We all know that what he says is not to be taken seriously.  But Sarah Palin's comments during and since the election have meant to stir up anger and hatred.  It seems to be working, given the amount of violence coming out of the right in recent weeks.  Letterman said his jokes were in bad taste.  Sarah has yet to take responsibility for her words. 

I believe the joke was in bad taste and Letterman apologized the following night. It’s the Palin’s that are politicizing this issue to curry-favor with the American voters. This is a said attempt to gain free air time and remain in the news cycle over a non issue. Letterman even invited the Palins’ to appear on his show. Surely the man is sincere in his outreach.

I believe every intelligent adult individual can make an honest assessment that Letterman was referring to the 18-year old single mother out of wedlock, and not the 14-year old daughter. Palin’s remarks: About Letterman’s joke affecting the self-esteem of your girls, I strongly disagree. It is up to the individual to control their self-esteem. With regard to young people positive self-esteem can be reinforced through the family, not a late night comedian. Moreover, Palin suggested that Letterman was sexually perverted wanting relations with a 14-year-old girl. I believe that is slanderous, sleazy and childish.

Palin supports are willing to do anything to gain traction on this non issue. They will even go as far as to say what if it was the Obama children. If the Obama’s had an 18-year old daughter pregnant out of wedlock he never would have been nominated or elected. Be fore-real and stop playing “the what if game.” This is non-scene and it’s time to put this issue behind the American people and move forward. We have real issues that require attention not this childish back and forth.

Where is Palin around that comment. And lets not forget John McCain and Limbaugh calling Chelse Clinton the white house dog....also never heard any GOPers talking about that. That is the real disgrace...selective outrage which is why Palin is not to be taken seriously...Oh ya, remeber her "rallies" calling Obama a domestic terrorist and people in the crowd yelling "kill him". McCain had to take it down..but Palin..did NOTHING!!!!!

Leno said essentially the same thing about Palin and her ilk. Didn't hear this flap about him. If this is all that the right-wing Christian extremists (and that is who is behind this persecution of Letterman) can find to spew their hate about, then it just proves once again what an ignorant and self-serving bunch of inbred morons these people are.

Adubato, you are a hypocrite. Where was all the outrage when Limbaugh referred to Chelsea Clinton as the White House dog? What about the recent gorilla comment regarding the First Lady? Or the countless jokes made about the look of Hillary Clinton, Bills infidelity? I remember nasty comments aimed at Amy Carter for that matter, and the jokes about Billy's alcohol addiction.

Now we all need to make an exception because Mama Palin and her false outrage say so? Well, let's just see how gracious she's going to be in accepting the second apology--NOT.

Newscoma posted details of a racist email sent from Sherri Goforth, legislative aid for Sen. Diane Black (R-Gallatin). The email depicts the Presidents of the United States with President Barack Obama as a pair of eyes in a black background.

I spoke with Sherri Goforth minutes ago to confirm she sent this email. She confirmed she had sent it and also said she had received a letter of reprimand from her superiors but said she will stay on the job.

Oh my gosh I am so tired of poor Palin's children. She put them on the fron line the day she accepted the invitation to be McCain's VP nomination! If she cared anything at all about her children she could have (1) declined the invite or (2) when questioned about her daughter's pregnancy she could have simply said no comment!

Let's hold accountable Bill O'Reilly, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, etc. and have a mea culpa from them all. Let's ensure that further advocacy of hatred and violence by them is punished. We will start with their apology.

Google "rush limbaugh sarah palin the babe". Among the entries that come up, you'll find one that's a transcript of a conversation El Rushbo had with one of his call-in listeners. It was at a time when Palin was being mentioned as a possible vice presidential nominee and El Rushbo kept referring to her as "a babe" and NOT discussing her extensive political experience or her vast qualifications for the vice presidency. Where was/is everyone's outrage and disgust for El Rushbo's obviously sexist comments?

After reading most of the above comments about the Letterman caper, it's apparent that many of them can't stay on track with the topic at hand presented by Steve A. There is an obvious tendency to revert to the 'ills' of the victims and others to justify Letterman's poor behavior.
